Position Description:
The RCM Coding Manager is responsible for managing our coding projects and staff, including offshore teams.
The Coding Manager will oversee the team of coding specialists to monitor productivity and effectiveness, while ensuring adherence to all processes per the most current coding guidelines.
They will use medical reference resources and contacts to thoroughly research and resolve any coding issues.
The Coding Manager should be able to recognize and communicate inadequate or incorrect documentation so that all coding is completed in a compliant manner.
The right candidate will have an active CPC coding certification, and a minimum of 5 years of specialty-specific coding experience.
Essential Job Duties Oversee and assist coding team in their daily activities and workload.
Monitor all coding accuracy at various levels of detail and maintain coding quality.
Coordinate the allocation and assignment of resources to ensure client projects are delivered on time, on budget, and that client expectations are met or exceeded.
Manage client needs and expectations to ensure project scope, requirements, and deliverables are developed appropriately.
Prepare and present educational feedback to providers and coders to clarify diagnoses, procedure coding and documentation requirements, including proper sequencing.
Develop and maintain department coding standards, protocols, and guidelines.
Support and educate all team members about coding best practices and procedures to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
Provide a high level of technical education and serve as a subject matter specialist regarding coding and documentation.
Assist in client retention and building the coding business line.
Review and report on key metrics.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by researching regulatory guidelines; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies as necessary or required.
Support additional coding, billing, and practice management projects as needed.
Perform other duties as needed and directed by leadership.
Minimum Requirements 5
years CPC or CCS coding certification Minimum of 3 years of mentoring staff, with strong leadership skills Experience coding multiple specialties; including E/M, RHC, Emergency Department Physician, Urgent Care, Family Practice, Laboratory, Ambulance, Orthopedics, and Rehabilitation.
Extensive auditing experience in multiple specialties Computer competency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint In-depth knowledge of AMA, OIG, CMS and other national coding and compliance guidelines including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS.
In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Knowledge of health information documentation.
Extensive experience in developing and writing SOPs Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher.
CPMA, CFPC, CEMC, CAC, COSC, Approved Instructor/other Educator.
3
year(s) experience in medical billing.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact effectively with physicians, management, and staff.
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with leadership, co-workers, physicians and other health care providers, and coding team.
Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to perform tasks independently and with minimal supervision.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, and personal integrity.
